Guide to choosing a house in Singapore
There are a few things you might want to look out for when you choose a flat or apartment in Singapore.
- The obvious one is the distance to the MRT station. It is worthwhile paying a premium for the house if it is located near an MRT station. I learnt this from my boss when I was working in public transport company. If you buy a flat away from the MRT station, you pay less upfront for the flat but when you will have to pay more for transport. But if you pay for an apartmen near the MRT station, you save on transport cost, if not for yourself, for your family members who are not driving. The second benefits is that you save time because you don’t have to wait for a bus to bring you to the MRT station and of course the bus travelling time to the MRT station.
- The second thing you have to consider is which direction your flat is facing. It has not to do with Feng Shui. It has everything to do with how cooling your flat is. If the window (bedroom or living room or both, you have to decide) faces the North East Direction or the South West Direction, you will probably be able to enjoy more wind coming into your house through the window. That means that you will save on air-con for certain parts of the year when the wind is blowing into your house.
